113 days to go before they let him out.
113 days to go before she starts concealing her bruises.
113 days to go before her kids begin crying under their duvets.
113 days to go before she stops wearing make-up.
113 days to go before he sets fire to toys, her clothes and school books.
28 weeks and 1 day to go before he walks in the door drunk and cursing.

But for now, on this Boxing Day night, she's thankful that her kids have enjoyed a peaceful Christmas.

This is powerful, Jennifer. Great force. And then the little bit of hope at the end. Well done!

Wow! Then wow some more.

For sheer emotional impact that is astonishing.

Well thank you both, Robin and John. It was written very quickly but, admittedly, with emotion.

Jennifer, this is as near as damn a poem you know. All you would do is cut everything unnecessary out. I said you were a poet

Actually Jennifer it makes me feel quite sick when I read it. It's the way you change the days into weeks I think. It so perfectly shows how it is not just the abuse but the anticipation of it that ruins lives.

Why don't you try Conclave with this or Boston Lit?

Jennifer
This is a great flash. Powerful and emotional and precise. It would make a great poem with a bit of tweaking.
Best wishes
Richard

Thanks Richard. Poetry is not my thing. It scares me.
