Narcissus and the Broken Mirror

Narcissus watched in horror,
as his beloved mirror slipped
from his hands, and splintered
into a million different pieces.

His face, contorted in rictus sorrow,
reflected in ugly lines from the floor,
and the sharp ends of that which gave
Him so much pleasure
now only causes him pain.

He longs to glue the mirror back together,
but the lines that he leaves
reflect the ugly reality,
rather than the face that he
and the rest of the world once loved.

For when something that gave you pleasure
is gone, it is better to find something new,
and not fix the same thing that now cuts
Your hands every time you go by it.
