And there was no waking
as the drift of sands and time
swept sadness away
with no thought of tomorrow

and the hour glass
kept turning before
the run of sand was done
and no clock ticked

and the jester saw him
then laughed at his pain
“shouldn't hae done it” he said
and slapped his thigh

and a why
came from another world
and the kiss of kindness
burned his lips
