The dream I hate the most comes
when the moon dallies full and long
over the far horizon.

Your shadow stands there
though I’ve never seen it.
Your voice lilts there
though I’ve never heard it.

Then I’m groping in the undertow
that imagines you as someone different.

"I’m groping in the undertow" -- captures perfectly that sense of trying to rouse oneself from the aftermath of a nightmare but the shreds of the dream keep dragging us back, like swimming in a lake where the branches of drowned trees keep pulling us down.

It's amazing what a difference a superb final image can do! :)

The last lines really make this poem, they add a layer that captures the enigmatic quality of dreams. The face unremembered, the revelation lost at the point of waking.... The recurring dream that always seems to be trying to tell you something, but you can never remember what...!

I agree though I think

when the moon dallies full and long
over the far horizon.

is so gorgeous and languid. I would get into this a little over the next few weeks and work it up. It's worth persuing.
