I wish that man with the cigarette
knew that he had fire in his mouth,
that I can see him walking through the fog.
He is a floating orange ember,
a thin smoke path up and up from his hand.
There is probably more to his life
than what I see fall to the ground,
but I can't see it.
His face is gone now.
His mild glow has left.
A boot, his probably, covers the ember,
and for all I know the man is no more,
rubbed out.

Goddy a well written poem. Can almost visualise the ember going to his mouth and then to be erased.

Well done.

Alice & Ani,

Thanks for reading. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm curious as to what kinds of thoughts it provoked?

Goddy reminded me of the third man and an advert I saw years ago. "YOUR NEVER ALONE WITH A STRAND". Was a cigarrette advert and the man was in an alley way. Just alone in the dark with his smoke.

God,

Your title sums it up for me. All we are to the countless strangers who wee us in the course of the the day, our lives, is what they see at a moment. Not that we'll be remembered. Not that your narrator will remember this cigarette-tip stranger. But it's humbling, isn't it, that despite all we think ourelves to be, to a stranger, we are only an impression, the rest left up to the stranger's imagination.
