Even An Angel

Word Count: 227
Summary: Written, I believe, from the perspective of a woman this poem deals with the breakdown of relationships. Coming soon in As A Boy

The crystal lies broken,
There’s a stain on the floor
And my tear streaked face
Says, we’ve been here before,
With sad lamentations
And brooding Amens,
Has love died between us?
Well that just depends…

For even an angel can break a wing,
And sometimes in life
The sky caves in.
And even wise men can stumble and fall,
And one day you’ll realise
You know nothing
About me at all.

Illusions are shattered,
Our dreams are all spent,
Bitter words pass between us
Spun with harsh intent.
Gone are our promises
And barren that vow
Has love died between us?
Well answer me now!

For even an angel can break a wing,
And sometimes in life
The sky caves in.
And even wise men can stumble and fall,
And one day you’ll realise
You know nothing
About me at all.

And how I laugh inside
Each time you say,
“Never let the sun go down
On a row”.
And how I cry inside
Each time you say,
“A gentle word turns away wrath”.
But I really want to hear you say…

I know that an angel can break a wing,
That sometimes in life
The sky caves in.
I know that wise men can stumble and fall,
And at last I realise
I know nothing, I know nothing,
I know nothing
About you at all.
