The hotel room beckons me enter
like a high-class painted harlot.
Her bed persuades me
by the pristine whiteness of its sheets
that I am the first.
But I know this virginal illusion
is a sham that hides the stains
of last night’s laundered lust.
That, tomorrow, I must vacate by ten
so the whole charade can start again
