Hard and Fast

Too fast?
Too hard?
You ask.
Risking burn out?
Falling off the edge?
You question.

Yes, my friend
Sure, it’s led
At break neck,
Hitching lifts
On passing comets
Rudely flouting
Normal,
Decent limits.
And, yes, ever
Burning bright,
Too bright.

But even if there was
The know how
To live another
More sedate way,
I doubt it would be taken,
And, perhaps for this
There will be
A price to pay.

But longevity
Lacks lustre,
Moderation
Breeds monotony.
And, god forbid
I suffer the
Ignominious fate
Of death
By mediocrity.
