Island of miserable love

Obsolete currency of jibes and mock-flirtation -
not the stuff of rich, mature, or grounded conversation.
I understand your stance,
know the dagger in your side,
yet this must end -
you must move forward
and quell the restless tide.

I have sailed away on seas more tranquil, warm and calming -
left behind the body blows, so viciously alarming.
I understood your fear,
knew the axe above your head -
that's why I walked,
found my way
to truer love instead.
