Prompted by Triconderoga's nice piece 'Calling the Toad' and in the spirit of the idea that poetry should be fun as well as serious.

Toad Ode

I always get the bit part
In fairy tales and books
A slimy one-kiss wonder
With execrable looks

I was minding my own business
A happy, hoppy kind of guy
Until that bloody princess
Happened to pass by

Who asked the primpy airhead
To screw up my contented life
Transmogrifying my existence
Just so she could be a wife

I liked the way I was you know
A sort of roadie toady louche
Wet and damp and uber cool
A slippery scaramouche

I see nothing in you humans
That fosters ill content
Why even Triconderoga
Thinks I'm quite a gent

So next time you're in my neighborhood
Pass on your feckless way
Don't be a toad hog lady
Find another prince to lay

I'm happy in my toadiness
Just leave me well alone
There's a lot of toady happiness
Beneath my precious stone.
