A Gift of Honour

Summary: I am a traveller and an independent individual, not afraid to take risks in life to achieve my ambitions. A friend suggested I read 'Milksop Nation' by Jack Gordon the Economist / Shell Writing Prize 2002. This is what inspired me to compose 'A Gift of Honour'. Very emotive and powerful, it displays my defiance against terrorism and evil in the world.

Such a squander of our wondrous endowment,
Sacrificing freedom, suppressing our dreams,

All for the vileness of malevolent existence,
Striving and squirming to destroy our virtues,

Live in trepidation and you allow them to win,
Refuse to surrender your ambitions, your liberty,

Choice and free will are gifts to be honoured,
And honour them we shall in the greatest memory,

For those who were taken when two towers fell,
Those great souls fire our spirits, our passion,

We’re driven by desire to perceive and learn,
We board a plane without knowledge of foul play,

One day we may fall victim to inherent evil,
Which is your preference? To depart and relinquish?

Or leave here feeling satisfied, a victor and conqueror,
Fulfilled with gratification, you’ve seen the great peaks,

The depth of our oceans, creatures great and small,
You have achieved your dreams and lived your aspirations,

Made use of life’s opportunities, as was meant to be,
All against the wants of the wicked revolt of terror,

Which demanded your submission for a suppressed subsistence,
To destroy the humane, for power and greed to dominate,

You can laugh loudest as judgement takes place,
Yield to iniquity, and you will deny your autonomy.
