Manchester's Green Room; spring news and events line-up

  Posted on 13/04/2004

green room
creativity for conscious minds
54-56 Whitworth Street West, Manchester M1 5WW

Events info to Friday 7 May

4-second fool
Ikebana Productions
Friday 16 April
7pm, 7.30pm, 8pm, 8.45pm, 9.15pm

In true green room style, this is not a straight-forward piece of work, but actually the fifth act of a piece seen at Contact in 2003. In 4 second fool, Jonathan McGrath continues his jerky meditation on the pain and confusion that relationships bring - but his take is utterly specific: the relationship men have with their mothers will be re-enacted throughout their adult sexual lives.

You get to see the previous four acts from projections surrounding the specially-constructed performance area.

round-about
Plane Performance
8pm Friday 23 April

Contemporary performance meets Hollywood schmaltz in a sort-of re-imagining of the musical Carousel. For those who don't quite recall, Carousel is set in 19th Century fairground America where a good-hearted bad boy gets an extra shot at redemption in the afterlife - hence its best known song, the football anthem 'You'll Never Walk Alone'.

In round-about, performers will be surrounded by the audience as they try dance steps, rehearse lines over and over and search for fragments of songs. All this barefoot on a floor of over two hundred mirrors.

Tom Thumb
Lyngo Theatre
2pm Sunday 25 April

Beautiful puppetry for children 5 and over - all the way from Italy.
There's also a chance to make monsters in a free workshop at 12.30pm or
3.15pm.

To register for workshops e-mail info@greenroomarts.org

Dual Control
Danza Rota
8pm Friday 7 May

Manchester's Emily Burns collaborates with Emma Teixidor from Barcelona and film-maker Roswitha Chesher for a clever and quirky performance event.

Dual Control sees two women literally sharing the same earth - the stage is covered with it. Memories flick from screen and dirt flies into the air as the women reach for each other's lives.

From the venue that launched the likes of Michael Clarke, DV8 and Charlotte Vincent in Manchester, here's another chance to see a rising dance star.

£8 (£5 concessions)
