Kevin Spacey launches anti-Hollywood website to promote fresh writing talent
Posted on 27/11/2002Hollywood actor and Oscar nominee kevin Spacey is a long time champion of new writing and pushing the boundaries of film. Now he's put his money- or his charisma, ideas and full contacts book- where his mouth is and launched a new website to promote new and struggling filmakers and writers.
TriggerStreet.com will give budding Spielbergs- another Spacey pal- the chance to have their work screened online, or discussed by anybody who signs up to the site's rules.
'So many of the great and successful plays and films have come from nowhere' he says, citing My Big Fat Greek Wedding, a current box office smash as a rare and lucky example.
Although Spacey insists he's not simply lining up cool new parts for himself, his company will have a 90 day option on scripts and films that are voted into the website's top ten. It's been going two weeks and there have already been 800 screenplays and 450 short films posted- in the US alone.
The website will also run three short film festivals a year. Judges include luminary actor/directors Sean Penn, Danny De Vito, Ed Norton, Tim Burton and Mike Myers. Get writing, is all we can say.
