This must seem a strange choice, but hear me out. Just out in chunky paperback, this, to nick an idea from Jasper FForde, is The Well of Lost Plots. Seeking inspiration? Open at any page, and I guarantee some startling germ of a tale will leap out at you.
E.g. 'In Aldenham Geoffrey De Bec holds 1 hide under the Abbott. There is labd for one plough, BUT THE PLOUGH IS NOT THERE.' (my caps) What happened to the plough? Daft? Maybe, but it's got me wondering.
