Jan (nee James) Morris hit the big time as a fledgling travel journalist in 1953 with her exclusive coverage of the Hillary/Tenzing Everest ascent. This anthology of her writing from around the world covers the latter half of the 20th century and spans the earth, from the early unrest and political upheaval in the Middle East, the vibrancy and hope in the burgeoning US, through to the emotional farewells of colonial Hong Kong. An immensely talented writer, Morris paints a vivid and lasting portrait of her destinations while maintaining the necessary restraint of an observer.
