About the course
Memoir Course
Whether you are telling your own life story or setting down the history of others the course will help you to make a narrative out of diverse kinds of material. Preferably working with your chosen subject matter we will take an in-depth look at structure and style. More particularly we will focus on the creation of the essential ‘hooks’ which draw the reader from one chapter to the next and thereby turn your history into an intriguing tale.
Academic Course
The course can work with current writing you are engaging with for example, a dissertation, other academic writing or
go through the basics of good academic writing via a series of exercises.
About the Tutor
Richard has an honours degree in philosophy and psychology from the University of Oxford, and
a first class diploma in psychological counselling from Roehampton College, London.
He has worked in education for most of his professional life, including as
Head of Department in
a Further Education college. His section had 50 full and part time staff
and offered a
wide range of courses including literacy, English for Speakers of Other Languages, GCSE and higher level programmes.
During this time he wrote many articles and several contributions to books on
educational matters. He also organized and ran numerous training courses.
Since leaving the teaching world he have been a self-employed writer and has
completed five full length volumes of family history for a Canadian client.
He recently wrote and self-published an account of the couple who ran the
first professional ski school in Scotland. This sold out the first
and second printings and is currently on a third.
He also continues to tutor speakers of other languages with business
and academic writing.
