You read me Thom Gunn
On a bed in Tufnel Park
I hardly knew you then

The poem was bleak
And sadly prophetic
Of how our lives would be

We made love hard and fast
In those days
You were un-skilled
But quick of hand
I wore my guilt like a badge
And left quietly
Losing myself in Kentish Town

The journey home
Was difficult that day
I thought up excuses
And re-applied lipstick
But I always knew he knew

Thank you Ellie. No one's really read my poetry before and I was a little hesitant about posting it on the site because I had no idea if it was any good. Your comment has really given me a boost so thank you.

Wonderfully raw and real: full of pleasure and guilt; just like real life, in fact! I have experienced the 'male' version of this and have no difficulty in responding to your telling of the time-old tangle. Down with gender definitions!

Best,

Mike
