In the random cosmos,
A brown, smooth-skinned boy,
Innocently, haphazardly, hurled
A moonbeam across the galaxy.

He was surprised
When it was caught
By an outstretched hand
Belonging to a brown-haired girl.

And so began the thing.
The missiles of burgeoning banter
The satirical canter
Ricocheting across the airwaves
Piercing their delighted mark.

And so it intensified.
The frenzied flinging
Of pelting words of wit,
Of delicately suggestive quips.
The hint of bloom.

And so it sped.
The written words became
The tentative voices
The raucous laughter
And the lure of honey.

And so came the physical encounter
In the hothouse of palms
The humidity of the air’s musk
The gigantic glossy leaves
Dripping their juices.

In the meandering afternoon
And its face to face reality
The options were spread
The disclaimers laid
A pretence of a choice to be made
A prelude to the melting taste of honey.

Hi Christina,

The beginning of a story. The poet's personal experience seems to be waiting to be discovered amidst those hothouse palms. Beautiful, romantic too - the lure of honey is drawing me on to the next part.

Best, Nell.
