I remember with clarity
The origin of my discovery
The convergence of companions
The steps that led us to that beach
The held hands, the toe-tickling sands

I remember with rapture
Our flights of fancy
In the flickering firelight
The enigmatic moonlight
That shined in the circle
Of our glowing countenance

I remember with ecstasy
The tug of the impelling beat
Charging the belly’s rising heat
The divine delight upon each luminous face
Every unified step, a sacred step of grace
A celebration of unwavering conviction

We cast the spell with careless impetuosity
We wove the tapestry of magical movement

The abandonment of our bodies
The wildness of the dance
Are still with me

When the damn’s burst
You can’t halt the river.
