In Two Minds

you were in two minds
neither of which were your own
I was just perfect

you were inside out
either way flicked your switch
but my circuit was closed

you were terrified
by the weakness of heroes
but my cowardice was brave

you really loved coffee & tea
I preferred my wines & spirits
we settled on smoke & mirrors

you were a trigger
beneath my itchy finger
but your safety was on

you really did think
that I would shoot you to death,
but my love cannot be forgiven

as easily as that.

Liked the clarity and mystery of this, and the sense of movement between the two characters is very strong. I'm not sure exactly what's happening, but that's a strength here, and not a weakness - I don't need to know! But the internal movement of a relationship speaks to us all.

This is very emotional, John, and I really like it. It is really well written but I am not a hundred per cent certain of what's happening either. What I can pick up is inner struggle and indecision - the Shall I? Shan't I? Will I? Won't I? - it feels like someone wrestling with themselves. Thank you for sharing - it's the kind of poem that makes echoes in your mind. The mystery of it only adds to its power.

Cheers folks, yes a mystery has to be a half creation really, hints and clues. But in the end the feeling of mystery is the point as you touch on.
