Being surrounded by beauty
an arrangement of flowers
the spirit of the woods,
the feel of a space,
hedgerows revealing unsuspected views

Belonging in a place
finding meaning in small things
Too often passed
deafened by noise, we travel too fast
and their relevance we lose

Discovering significance
in events of 'chance'
The forces that guide our lives
ley lines of serendipity and coincidence
the beauty of words, and hidden truths

Elusive thoughts briefly held upon the page
captured before they evaporate,
calmly, quietly settling-in
making up the matrix of our souls
taking up their rightful place, they infuse

Birdsong choruses un-caged
School children engaged within stone walls
unbridled falls of laughter escape
tumble and cascade
these things we choose

Thanks Ellie... this started life like writing a shopping list of just a few of my favourite things - whereas the last stanza relates to witnessing an actual event.. passing by a school in a village and hearing birdsong and then hearing children's laughter

Andrew -

I got caught on the word 'illusive',
and tried 'elusive' in its place,
but your word works best.

A poem worth keeping for ever. JohnK.

Elusive

Tending to elude capture, perception, comprehension, or memory: “an invisible cabal of conspirators, each more elusive than the archterrorist [himself]” (David Kline).
Difficult to define or describe: “Failures are more finely etched in our minds than triumphs, and success is an elusive, if not mythic, goal in our demanding society” (Hugh Drummond).

illusive

\Il*lu"sive\, a. [See Illude.] Deceiving by false show; deceitful; deceptive; false; illusory; unreal.

Truth from illusive falsehood to command. --Thomson.

adj : based on or having the nature of an illusion; "illusive hopes of of finding a better job"; "Secret activities offer presidents the alluring but often illusory promise that they can achieve foreign policy goals without the bothersome debate and open decision that are staples of democracy" [syn: illusory]

<Added>

Steph on Quest 4 already told me off for using illusive instead of elusive.. I think I'll carry on using illusive as and when

elusive... means hard to find
illusive.. means like an illusion

Thanks for your thought John
