Snarl for me
Oh wonderful, warm furred beast
Bare your horsy teeth
and drool.
You are not camouflaged
amid the arid land;
You’re confident
arrogant:
kick out your many knees!
You know who’s boss.
Red, orange, brown tasselled glory
Matted but patted
Tipped and whipped;
ready to race
or a more leisurely pace.
Snarl for me
Oh wonderful, warm furred beast
Make the hot sand fly!

Hi there Katherine,

I love this little poem - it's full of character and movement. I find the camel quite an odd creature, but you made me warm to it.

I particularly liked this bit:

ready to race
or a more leisurely pace.
Snarl for me
Oh wonderful, warm furred beast
Make the hot sand fly!

This line I wasn't so sure about. There was something a bit cliched/ordinary about the description in it, somehow, in my POV:

Red, orange, brown tasselled glory

I like the image of the tassels though.

Great stuff.

Thanks Mermaid.

I wasn't sure about that tasselled line myself..

Yes I grew up in Qatar; I was an expat brat!

It's a little peninsula off Saudi Arabia and not far from Dubai either. It's where the infamous TV station Al Jazeera are based..

Aha.

Well, I hope to read more about it some time.
