Modern Honour

Honour has many languages
Many cultures
Many religions
It’s a sweet word really

Honour is great, commendable,
Respectable, Recognition
An innocent word really

Modern honour has word power
It’s egoistic with power
To oppress, shame, and rage wars
Rule, destroy and kill
Used in the name of religion
When religion is innocent
But, culture the villain
The villain permitting killing and murder
Once again oppressing the weak
For you see, modern honour
Is a word dirtied and sullied really

Thanks for spelling out the difference between religion and culture. I wonder if it occurs to many people that within one land, there are many cultures, often at odds with eachother?

I think it does happen in many lands and cultures but under various disguises and reasons. Violence is the easy way to induce fear and control. The recent media attention on wife/husband battering and the death of that 17 year old Kurdish girl (In todays papers 30th Sept. 2003) proves that nothing is changing as much as we think. This is happening in Western socities aswell which is seen as more liberal and free. Greed, power and voilence are powerful emotions and so even the educated resort such behaviour. Sad really.

Yes , very profound. There is real honour in the way private people conduct themselves; like those brave parents who mourn their dead children killed in the name of God knows what inspired belief - and do not stoop to a violent baying for more blood and revenge. Evil has always hidden behind pure words whilst perpetrating crimes against man and god. You have powerfully unmasked the charlatans.

Thank you for that! Yes, hidden crimes and violence still continue despite many laws to combat it. I think no matter how many laws there are culture and communities do no change at grass roots. It would take many generations.History has shown that the story only changes in the way it is narrated e.g. Dowry where ever it exists, still does. Very very sad.
