Poetry is the new pop?
Yeah right.
Like go is the new stop.
Like a mime artist using a prop.
Like the bull tiptoeing past the china shop
Without a strop.
Poetry aint the new pop.

Poetry is the new place?
As if.
Like Des O’Connor is a new face.
Like Long John Silver winning a race.
Like a teenager adoring his new brace
Showing his mates.
Poetry aint the new place.

Poetry is the new peace?
Please.
Like West is the new East;
A likely political mix up on your TVs.
Like a military dictator hugging trees,
Loving the breeze.
Poetry aint the new peace.

Poetry aint the new this or that.
It’s old hat.

A cynic's view indeed... It did make me laugh though... some cracking lines:

'Like the bull tiptoeing past the china shop
Without a strop.'

'Like a military dictator hugging trees,'

I also really like the kinda rappy rhythm. Cool.

But tell me, what inspired this Barney?

Barney - very funny stuff...made me laugh. I agree with walrus - some cracking lines: I particularly loved 'like Des O'Connor is a new face' and 'like west is the new east'.

Cheers for putting a great big smile on my face!

Hilarious stuff Barney
Great lines very witty and well put together
Favourites include
like military dictator hugging trees
&
like a teenager adoring his new brace

but poetry is really hip -
specially when you get a trip
of laughter
thanks
Tina

Barney

You do know how to cobble a good one together. I loved this and am smiling along with the rest. The 'Yeah right', 'As if' and 'Please' put me in mind of my stroppy 7 year old daughter who thinks she knows it all.

cracking stuff - please keep posting

cheers

Thanks everyone. Personally it was one I was unsure of and stuck it on to see what people thought. I was worried it was perhaps too simplistic, so I'm glad you liked it. As far as inspiration I suppose I started at the end. I had the phrase 'old hat' buzzing around my head and wanted to get it in somewhere. So there it is!

Cheers,

Barney

Have just read you poem,
Found the 'rap' format suited it and the subject matter extremely well.

really enjoyed the lines
'Like the bull tiptoeing past the china shop
Without a strop.'

'Like a military dictator hugging trees,'

Thank you
