As I sever my flesh
and watch
the deep ruby slalom my shin,
I think of you,
my wayward love.
I see you in my head,
thrusting,
panting,
giving.
I slice again,
my breath catches
and I smile.

Agony and ecstacy? Very poignant Bobo. But is the agony worth it?

Nah...it was never worth it...HE was never worth it. My agony, his ecstasy...not a bundle o' laughs...

Your poem reminded me, for reason unknown, of the piece 'Since there's no help', by Michael Drayton:

Since there's no help, come let us kiss and part.
Nay, I have done, you get no more of me.
And I am glad, yea glad with all my heart
That thus so cleanly I myself can free.
Shake hands forever, cancel all our vows,
And when we meet at any time again,
Be it not seen in either of our brows
That we one jot of former love retain.
Now at the last gasp of Love's latest breath,
When, his pulse failing, Passion speechless lies,
When Faith is kneeling by his bed of death,
And Innocence is closing up his eyes --
Now, if thou wouldst, when all have given him over,
From death to life thou mightst him yet recover.

Sounds dreadful... but from ashes the phoenix always rises...

And from expression, and if I may say, such eloquent expression such as yours, cathartic magic weaves its spell.

Beautiful poem Fearless.

Thanks for your kind words Walrus...catharsis is very under-rated methinks! In hindsight, perhaps it would have been more cathartic to have taken the knife to my errant husband's flesh...!

Hehehehe... it's still an option... revenge is both underated and also a dish best served cold. However, what's the point? Moving on and daring to live one's life in a state of beauty and harmony is the surely the best revenge non?

I wrote a very short short story about exacting my revenge...if you get a moment and have the inclination take a gander at Hysterical Love... to be able to laugh at past trauma is a real blessing...

...to 'rise above' is in itself a fabulous lifter of the soul!
