I really should get rid
of that Mexican hat. Why is it
under the stairs? Probably

it found its way there with the
folding chairs which see the light of day
only when we have guests.

Three plastic basins. Would we
ever need all of them at once? Well
remember that Easter hike?

Long-forgotten years-old pots
for the patio. Seems too much like
hard work these days. Buy a

ready-planted hanging basket
if you want to look like a gardener.
Coats not worn for years. So

get rid of them! Let's just see
if we need them sometime soon.
Umbrellas, walking sticks

fall over whenever you open
the door. Probably the best thing
is to keep it closed.

I like the way that flows...the internal rhyme, the memory of holidays past, that unplanned...
it found its way there

under the stairs? Probably

it found its way there with the

and all the things that weren' t used and aren' t needed. The oblique reference to age in:

Seems too much like
hard work these days

and the double meaning of sticks at the end of the penultimate stanza also
fall over
at the start of the last - tripping over memories

wnenever = pick

An excellent start ot this wek' s challenge.

Thanl you Joanie for setting the pace

Excellent, Joanie. Really liked this. As Oonah says, it has a good flow, and you present those everyday thoughts and worries that are so universal, we can all realate to them.

This is so typical:

So

get rid of them! Let' s just see
if we need them sometime soon.

It' s so reminiscent of the way I am.

And then the ending:
Probably the best thing
is to keep it closed.

Yes!

Best,
Robin

Joanie - just picturing you on an easter hike with three plastic basins. Hmm...washing up basins?

Thanks, MarlaD. You know, I honestly can' t remember how it came to be there. I know that I certainly never bought it on holiday!

Thanks for commenting.

Hi Elsie. For soaking aching feet...... Should I have said ' bowls' ? I don' t know. Yes, they are washing-up basins/bowls.

Thanks for reading!

A cupboard very much like my own, but oh, you have done so much better with your poem! I love the style, and the way your thoughts show.

Well done,

I look forward to reading more of your work.
