Body of pain,
let me nurture you,
as only I
know how to do.

Let me caress you
with my scarred fingers
because you are my
dirty friend,
to whom I send
missives of
secret strength.

And, to you,alone,
I remain faithful.

And, even though,
unchained choices,
dangle before my bleary eyes,
I remain loyal to you,
my sweet body of pain.

Walrus

A homage to our inner pain, our best friend, the soulmate we dare not be without....the shadow we cannot cast away.

Body of pain. Summons up images of Anthony Gormley's sometimes tortured iron sculptures. Didn't like somehow the (accidental?) rhyme in the first stanza. Like 'because you are my dirty friend.' Love, Maria.

Haven't had the pleasure(?) of viewing Anthony Gormley's work Maria. The purely accidental rhyme in the first stanza, has clearly failed to lead into the 'my dirty friend' in the second stanza... pain can be a seductive lover... for whom... only you hold the key.

Pain is a familiar face in the baying crowd - an unlikely comfort blanket.

Good stuff, as always, Walrus.

Thanks Bobo. This was written, thankfully, about a distant past memory of pain. But one never forgets.
