Looking like the cat
who got the cream
he swaggered down
the aisle

until at just the right
moment he floundered
like a fish out
of water

when he spotted his ex
sitting as pretty
as a rose in a
cabbage patch

and suddenly his nerve
dissolved like snow
out of season.
The guests can

save their rice
for another day.

I knew you'd come up with a take like that! Like your backwards alphabet poem

I'd take the ? out of the title because it doesn't seem to take much of an impediment to make hin do a runner ;

That's a wonderful take on the challenge, Joanie. Wonderful usage of the prompt words. Puts the rest of us to shame, I'd say.

so this is what you had in mind eh when you sent us on the wild goose chase or shall I say 'the recipe race'? Tricked us all

really nice, liked this a lot

when he spotted his ex
sitting as pretty
as a rose in a
cabbage patch

Thanks for reading, Robin and Findy! I'm laughing at Findy's comment of
you sent us on the wild goose chase
Perhaps 'goose should have been there on the list of ingredients! Please believe me - I didn't have anything in mind when I suggested the 'ingredients'. I have just written my contribution very much in the spirit of 'Flash'.

Thanks again!

Oh nice one, Joanie. It flows so well, and I'd pick out the same lines as Findy. I like tone wry and dry and pithy. Brilliant.

Just joking Joanie, I believe you

Goose would have been a challenge though coz I have never cooked it

I loved the rose in the cabbage patch, too.
