A tantalising glimpse of its hind leg
As it bolts into the grove’s density.

The glint of its midnight eye
Reflected by the luminescent sky.

The scraps of its fur caught in my fist
As it once again slips from my grip.

Always,
One step behind
The elusive beast.

Not fickle if you want it enough. When you do, you will be able to grasp and hold on to it. Just a case of wanting it.

Great poem. Signs of a chase....you will capture it.

Surely it is fickle, in the sense that it is unpredictable?

Thanks for your kind comments.

You're right, fickleness is about being disloyal, unpredictable. But if you are trying to grip it as your poem suggests, then perhaps it is desired, wanted....maybe fear weakens the grip.

This is a fair point, but, I stand by the fact that the future remains forever an 'elusive beast', a untamed beast that noone can capture and, although sometimes one can see snatches, glimpses, one never knows whether these are real or a figment of one's own desire or imagination or fear.

Well, there is only one way to the future; the present.
