"Hello?"

"Hi Kitten."

"Oh, Hi Daddy! How are you?"

"I'm OK Kiddo, what are you up to?"

"Just putting Justin down for his nap, and Rose is off to school."

"How's she doing?"

"Really good, her teacher says she is reading two grades higher than the rest of her class. We are really proud of her!"

"That's great Kitten, good to hear, and you are OK?"

"Yeah Daddy, why, what's going on, is it Mom?"

"No, no nothing is wrong really but...well, I think I scared your Mom earlier today. I....yelled at her, but I was confused and upset."

"Daddy, what happened? Are you all right? What's going on?"

"Well, I woke this morning on the couch, and didn't remember how I got there, and nothing looked familiar. It was really weird and I couldn't figure it out. Then your Mom walked in, said good morning and asked if I was all right. I was still really confused and didn't recognize her, so I asked who she was. She sat down next to me and said 'Why, I'm your wife dear'. Well, that set me off and I stood up yelled that she was not my wife and demanded to know where I was and what I was doing there! I couldn't recognize anything!

"She stood quickly and backed away and just asked me to sit down and relax for a bit and it would be OK. Asked if I wanted coffee or anything. I think I grumbled that coffee would be good and might clear the cobwebs".

" Oh my! Daddy are you Ok now, I mean, you remember her now...don't you?"

"Yeah, I'm fine now. After thirty or forty minutes, things started coming back to me and once I recognized her, I apologized for yelling at her. But that has never happened before, and I just wanted you to know.....and I wanted to ask if you tried calling the last couple days?"

"No, last I spoke to you or Mom was the weekend, why?"

" Well, today is Friday, and my last memory is going to bed last tuesday. I wanted to know if I have been missing or lost for the past couple days? I cant remember anything! Your Mom says I was safe and not to worry. But if I'm losing days and waking up confused, I don't know, do you think I could have been abducted by aliens?"

"C'mon Daddy, aliens? No, but it might be something more serious, let me talk to Mom, is she there?"

"Hold on," "Doris!" he called, "Margie wants to talk to you."

"Hi sugar, did your Daddy tell you what happened this morning?"

"Yes, do you think this is the onset of dementia, or Alzheimer's? Have you taken him to see the Doctor?"

"Oh, I'm sure it's nothing like that dear. Just a little confusion when he woke up this morning is all. But he did kind of frighten me when he yelled at me, telling me I was not his wife. I didn't expect that he wouldn't recognize me when he woke up!"

"Exactly! That's why I think you need to get him to the doctors and find out what is causing this. It may be an isolated incident, or the start of something more serious Mom. I mean, he told me he couldn't remember the last two days and mentioned something about being abducted by aliens. Mom, that's just crazy."

"I know dear, and I'm a bit upset about that part."

" The alien abduction part? I know! Where would he get that from?"

"That's what I mean, they assured me he would have no memory of it whatsoever."

Great! There was I thinking another dementia victim.

Really enjoyed this. Good dialogue which drove the story on. That ending! What a surprise. X Files all over again.

Got me I like that! The wife is in on it - poor guy doesn't have a hope in hell!

I liked this, good twist. For some reason, (probably the 'Daddy' thing) I had to re-read the beginning before I got it that the person on the other end of the line was a grown up daughter. But an enjoyable read, nonetheless. Well done!

They're coming to take me away, ha ha.

But the question is who is coming. Very clever, with a well turned twist. Bewildering Stories, perchance?

God luck with this.

Best
