The Other Side Of Love

What if you had given me
The other side of your love?
Would I be like a sage or tribal elder
Sowing eternal seeds of humility?
All the time present
To the natural wisdom?

Would that other thread have led me
To the blissful magic of every moment?
And would an angel be there
To take me every damn place?
Or to some holy satisfaction
In a smaller, quiet life?

I wonder if that dream
Would have me effortlessly see
The divine majesty of every passing hedgerow?
Or see me rise each dawn, clear headed
So as not to miss sunrise
And the rush of pristine, radiant gratitude
Doubtless to accompany it.

If I had missed the shadows of your love
Would I not have to burn
For the simple sweetness, of peace of mind?
And would this pleasant sleep
Nourish me like an endless spring?
A glacier, melting in the May sun?

Surely no other conditions
Would ignite the gratitude
I now feel in my heart for you
After all the pain and sorrow?

Thank you.
The love you gave me
Was my own invitation
To the ferocity of life
And the full force
Of every sacred truth
Buried in the sunken treasure
Of my newfound acceptance
