All The Pretty Colours

Word Count: 40
Summary: For Flash! The colours reminded me of pills and the need for a pill to counteract some effects of a pill...not that I'm on anti depressants - I have wine! :-)

Scattered hues of happy
cuddled in her hand.
Delicious reds and blues
and turquoise
to fix the broken.
Magic beans.

Colours make her forget.
Medicinal confetti
whispering
“eat me”
as she floats down
the rabbit hole
away from the dark.

Very nicely done!

It's a good concept you have here

and turquoise
to fix the broken

like the zip in this dressing gown of mine :)

Strange how the wine and pills never work and we end up at the bottom of a hole.

Nice opening

Scattered hues of happy
cuddled in her hand.

I agree with Oonah. Enjoyed the twist in

as she floats down
the rabbit hole
away from the dark.

and the idea of broken magic beans.

the idea of broken magic beans
Correction, Bill. There's a full stop after 'broken', so it's not the magic beans that are broken but the person who takes them. 'To fix the broken.' To fix body parts not functioning properly, or to fix something that's going on in our heads - in our 'Three Pounds of Cells'. To banish bad thoughts chemically. They don't always work, but when they do...

'Down the rabbit hole' is inspired. The Cheshire cat, the Hatter et al, especially that awful Queen, try to get under Alice's skin, but she's a match for all of them.

James.

What stands out for me is the childlike references to colour put together with the idea of dark shadows in the background.

Medicinal confetti

Is a brilliant way of putting it. It's like 'I can sing a rainbow' but about drugs.

Very cool.

Following on from James's comment - and it is plain to me that broken is applying to the pill-taker, I wonder how the single line 'Magic Beans' fits. Is there a question mark missing?
Apart from this I enjoy the quirkiness of the poem; it opens a world far removed from my own experience - one I don't fully understand (I desperately avoid pills, or any medication).
The last line is intriguing.

A really tight and concise poem, love "colours make her forget" and the hues "cuddled in her hand". Medicinal confetti is a great term, imagery that's equally amusing and disturbing, leading to a perfect note to end on, floating down, away from the dark.

I also love the juxtaposition, colours lead her away from the dark, yet the talk of colour detracts from the darkness that must already be around her. a dark concept, cleverly unravelled...!

Hi Jo, what a powerful poem that says such a lot about depression in just 5 lines. Really clever the how the first and second verses seem bipolar themselves. The "hues of happy", "delicious" and "magic beans" are followed by "Colours make her forget" as she "floats down the rabbit hole". Quite brilliant.

P.S I have wine AND cider!
