Buddha made of plastic

Buddha made of plastic
in fantastic green robes
is machine worshipped,
mouth a red stained om.

Black pressed eyes stare
from ancient baby tones,
skin raw and poured pink
ears falling on shoulders.

A rubber band soul
blessed by bar-code,
infinitely snapped
back to beginning.

John,

Brilliantly spare use of words to paint a vivid picture, and brief starlting moments that call up a good many reflections. I was particularly taken with "machine worshipped" and "rubber band soul / blessed by bar-code".

Wonderful poem, as always. This is some kind of series.

I am having a little game with myself, wondering what the next buddha will be!! Soapstone?? I love the 'blessed by bar code' - I have a really strong image of a whole LINE of plastic buddhas on a cheap, holiday-shell-shop-type-souvenir-cheapo-painted-etc-etc.........I do hope you know what I mean!!! I love it.

John,

These buddhas are so real now I can see them, feel them. Loved mouth a red stained om, and the way the last two lines of the last stanza link to the first. Didn't the Rolling Stones do an album called Rubber Soul?

Nell.
