Little Light.

This little light, the smallest flicker
Of the flame I knew,
Burns bright enough for me to feel
The love inside for you.
Imagine if it were the fire that once
Burnt blazing red and blue.

You did not take away its fuel
You stole its oxygen,
Stoked it with a hopeless pain
Carelessly, and then,
Watched it wither… did you watch?
Or did you turn away again?

And as the night grew cold and dark
You wondered where I’d gone.
Where was the flame you’d planned
To warm your tired feet upon?
You searched the ashes desperately
For anything to build on…

A little light, the smallest flicker
Of the flame you knew...
So slight but still enough to show
That love could grow anew.
Imagine if it were the fire that once
Burnt blazing red and blue.

I have no experience of poetry but this was a lovely poem. I particularly liked the third verse, which seemed to stand out above the others for me. Sorry I can't give much of a critique as I wouldn't know what I was talking about, but well done Epona.

Just as a flame could become a fire, this lyric, in terms of emotion, goes from a whisper to a scream. Nice one, write on,

Hey.
Loved this, each and every stanza .

Burns bright enough for me to feel
the love inside of you.

Nothing more seems to say what you did.
Perfect.

Well done

I like the feeling of flame dancing with emotion, that comes with this ,as long as there is a flicker things can be built .Also a good way of expressing some painful feelings ,letting them lose. with renewed hope.

Hi!

especially like the phrase

"A little light, the smallest flicker
Of the flame you knew"

nice piece to read, kind of sad too, as if you (or the reader) are mourning the loss of love too. Its so true that love needs to be fed by two people or it dies and then as the cliche goes, it is no longer love.

Nice rhythm to this piece.

Thankyou all for your comments, they are very much apreciated. Love is a funny thing, and I don't know whether this is more about hope or loss, both are true really, and I felt both whilst writeing it... love, sadness...
It is very true that love needs to be fed by two people... it must be valued.
Thankyou all again.

Emma, x.
