Print Double spaced

The skinhead and the punk stood face to face
Think you know me?
Think again you commie scum
Said the skin
Face to face
And toe to toe they stood

The skinhead and the punk stood face to face
I know what you are
You don’t think, you racist thug
Said the punk
Face to face
And toe to toe they stood

The skinhead and the punk stood face to face
I know what I know
Said the skin
And the punk
Face to face
And toe to toe they stood.

The skinhead and the punk stood face to face
And didn’t see
The grinning man behind
Who whispered sneeringly
Stand
Face to face
And toe to toe for me

Too strong in sentiment to be a "skit" I think? It has a powerful, menacing feel and the repeated lines seem apt to the context and set up the irony (?) of the last stanza.

For no reason other than gut feel - I kept feeling a few rhymes, or better half rhymes, would help it flow. Odd, as I spend most of my time trying to stop my own stuff 'wanting' to rhyme.

Hi Baldur

interesting social comment. Agree with Zettels first pararagraph, a menacing tone to this piece with some dark imagery, with the rhythm imposed by the repetition. Do we still have skinheads and punks? I guess it doesn't matter the principal is the same and in anycase it could be a metaphor for our current situation.....

A really good poem. I too enjoyed the menace.

Thank you all for the comments, sorry it's taken me so long to reply...I'd like to plead pressure of work, but that'd be a lie!
Zettel, you're right of course, 'skit' isn't the right word, although I originally did intend it to be so, it just turned into more of a rant against political extremism and violence in general. Not sure about making it rhyme though, I think that would take away some of the 'raw edge' (damn, that sounds pretentious!).
Thanks again,

Michael.
