WriteWords talks to Thomas Watkin, editor of new fiction magazine Tall Tales.

Tell us about Tall Tales

Tall Tales started forming in my head whilst on the tube without a book. I then undertook the role of editor (and everything else) and with the help of some great people put together the first issue. The concept behind is to create a regular outlet for unknown writers to print their short stories and provide readers with a FREE magazine full of brand new fiction.

What kind of writing are you looking for?

We are looking for anything and everything, all styles and genres are accepted. The only thing we ask is for there to be some sort of connection with London, though this can be as strong or tenuous as desired.

Who are your favourite writers and why?

I try to read as many different styles and genres as possible. A few of my recent favourites are Donna Tartt, Iain McEwan, Iain M Banks and Rohinton Mistry. I find their characters engaging and have the need to find out what happens to them next.

What excites you about a piece of writing-

I like to feel emotional while reading a piece of writing, happy, sad, angry or whatever. If my emotions are toyed with I feel I’ve had a satisfying read.

Nice interview and great to see Deblet's short story has been accepted for this magazine, 'DIRTY PROTEST' - well worth reading as it has a lot of style and shows that the mag has very good taste :)
