On sure foot step I wander,
the Cornish cliffs so high.
With baited breath my eyes espy,
secluded coves, where gulls fly by.
Waves crash to land, o'er jagged rocks,
sheer cliffs give way to sand.
Pleasure seekers and fishermen
take life in their own hands.
Windblown hair whips salt kissed face,
all senses are aroused.
No room for stress or tension
not in this special place,
give thanks to Mother nature
in all her worldly grace.
For all that she created
is there for me to see,
The beauty of the Cornish coast
my home beside the sea.
I languish in my privilege
a smile upturns my lips.
A warmth does glow around my heart,
my broken soul feels fixed.
I love the magic moments
that Kernow gives to me,
there's nowhere else quite like it
my only place to be.

Very nice. I stayed in St Ives earlier in the year and I know what you mean. Your fourth line could, I think, be improved by cutting 'by' leaving just 'where gulls fly'. This seems to make the rhythm smoother.

Have a look at Amsterdam in my list of uploads - it was written on the coastal path between St Ives and Zennor

I agree with Didau, but your love of the place you write about seeps out of every word you write, makes me want to go there.

Yep, despite being one of the most populated places in the UK throughout Summer, this County/Country, if you get off the beaten track still harbours nooks'n'crannies that speak to the 'ancient' within us; much the same way as Ireland does; or at least that's what I think you're saying.

I love this line:

"Windblown hair, whips salt kissed face"

but take the comma out and I think it's even stronger.

thank you all for your comments, I have removed the comma as suggested and agree it does seem better.

Thanks for refering me to this poem, Pene.

I particularly like "Windblown hair whips salt kissed face"

Sums up much of my childhood that line!

Thanks.

Lisa
