Spirits that guide me on, who is it that hides inside?
Special moments alone have so often been denied.
Thoughts are never ending, thoughts are always in my mind.
They vilify me with pressure of the torturing kind.
Who am I to understand what they're wanting from me?
Why don't they leave me alone? Why won't they let me be?
Leafing through the patterns that have made me who I am.
Am I a kaleidoscope of vivid patterns? Or am I nothing more than a diagram?
Agonising all the possibilities of what I wanted to be.
Wake up! Why can't I understand? Will I ever see?
The only thing that's really stopping me. Is me!!

the line that really stands out for me in this is 'leafing through the patterns that have made me who i am.' very strong image.

Being a slave to one's mind is a terrible thing. Unfortunately, most of western 'civilised' society are victims of this. Tragic. I like this poem very much. I think it addresses frustrations many have. And, as you rightly say, one can be one's own worst enemy.

Good piece.
