SNOW IS FALLING.

I thought winter would pass us by
until I looked at the grizzly sky
large flakes of snow fall to the ground
wind is howling,homeward bound.

Put away the boots, snuggle close to the fire
hot mug of soup to warm my desire
snow getting thicker by the hour
winter wonderland with resolving power.

I like the mix-up of the alternately bleak and cozy imagery- I love Winter, methinks my favourite month. The last line is great, the niceness of 'Winter wonderland' with the slight threat of 'resolving power.'

Thanks!

James

James it is 2 inches thick now. I love the snow and I got the fire blazing in my cottage. Nice and cosy . Thanks for the comments. Was a stir of the moment thing.

Are you serious!? Is it really snowing? In Yorkshire? I'faith! I could do with some of that cold white loveliness Midlands way. Snow days and what-not.

From what I can glean from the local news, it is indeed snowing in Birmingham. The Writewords Gods act fast.

Alice, I love the silence of fallen snow outside when we are tucked up inside. Two inches! I remember my Mum used to say that we always have a bit of snow at some point in November. I don't think we shall have any. We don't have much.

I liked the idea of Winter being 'homeward bound'.

Enjoy your evening by the fire!

Joan

Maybe it's because you posted twice James, a doubly powerful wish. It's snowed here in Derbyshire a bit too. Lovely poem Alice, makes me want to curl up with a hot drink and a good book.

James!! What a brilliant comment. I LOVE the idea of WW gods. Now that could start a whole new thing on here! Hardly bears thinking about!

Kathleen..didn't know you lived so close.
Brought up in derbyshire.
Yes you would get it the same time.
Looks great..won't say that tomorrow when I am looking over the moors with the dog.

It's bloody cold here, but we've not had any snow yet. You lucky devil roovacrag! In fact, I'm going to go out and see if it's snowing right now, it wasn't earlier, but judging by the above, it's happening somewhere!

No. No snow here, just cold and wet. Put the heating on though (instead of a fire) and made a brew (instead of soup), kind of made up for the anti-climax of the no show of snow, so it wasn't a wasted journey! There is a 'grizzly sky' though, that's a cool description, I like that. I wish I was out your way in the winter wonderland, lovely work roovacrag.

Thanks

Don

Alice, lucky you! Winter and snow two words that don't seem to go together very much anymore... Remember a winter visit to Huddersfield as a child: we had to abandon the car and were carried across fields of snow drifts by our friends' friends and their Dad, wearing snowshoes. Very exciting... lovely poem, nikki :-)

I always get a cosy feeling when a poem trips off the tongue onto the page. With this you seem to have it twice, spur of the moment, and a night by the fire. Sensational, especially as it was snowing on me in Kenilworth last night.
Well done

Nikki..many thanks for your comment.
Was snowing hard last night snake pass has been closed ever since. Molly was like a spring lamb in it.

Carlton thanks. The moors are a picture today.
Ski slopes are busy with real snow instead of a dry slope.
I always think that a quick poem often turns out better than ones that are pondered on.
