Treasured Moments

Treasured moments
traced with sadness.
Times of joy,
times of madness.
Youth has vanished,
life is tarnished,
grief lies just beneath the varnish.
Memories that won't diminish,
waiting for the day to finish.
Dreams we had which couldn't last,
voices raised as hopes were dashed,
echo from the distant past.
Abandon customs of your culture.
Travel backwards, change your future.
Cast your spirit far and wide,
ebb and flow, like the tide
and find your true self deep inside

Wistful rather than melancholic I hope, though of course it could be both.

Abandon customs of your culture.
Travel backwards, change your future.

Has the hint of tragedy.

Poignant and moving.
