The last time I drank
was a bottle of beer
in Birmingham International Airport

Didau - can't help but agree with your summary! I've no idea what happened in BIA but there are a thousand and one possibilities:
- a couple of lads coming back from Spain, some banal point to be proven
- a alcoholic bidding farewell to a lover and proving to himself he can have 'just one'
- a petite girl who never has more than a sip of wine without getting drunk

Oh dear, hope I haven't spoiled it for anyone else doing this!

It's the airport reference that gives it so many different possibilities I think.

Read this via the 'random read'
Short indeed
But it did suceed
In making me smile
And wonder awhile
As to why that drink was a significant deed.

(I smiled also at the 'However' in your reply to the comment!)

Richard.
