George fainted in Assembly
often.

He was allowed (in the days when
nothing was ever allowed)
to sit quietly at the side,
pale.

The caretaker brought
a bucket of sawdust
to soak up his vomit
regularly.

This was accepted,
understood, never questioned
by the innocence of
Infant School.

Those unconsidered questions
lurked silent inside me
for years.

Now there are
no answers.

devastating and sad. You have made george very real in a short space of time, the resolution at the end "ther are no answers" seems almost like a refrain, as if the narrator is merley repeating whats been told to him and he has sadly accepted it. i love the way you have clearly shown the impact that childhood incidents can hae on the rest of our lives.

Very powerful.

I wanted more!

Joanie,
Great poem. Didn't George become president of somewhere?

Does make you wonder, doesn't - all those kids that had mysteries about them. Interesting poem, I like it.
