Summary: A Japanese myth about the meditative Buddhist monk, Bodhidharma, describes how he threw his drooping eyelids to the ground in frustration at his inability to stay awake. The Origins Of The Tea Plant

this morning
my soul depletes
the ozone,

my beat heart
putting down
the dots,

bacon incense
swinging smoke
while I listen,

you deep sleep
on the cool cotton
the night quenched,

your tea leaf eye-lids
unclipped by the Monk
your still day brewing.

This is lovely, each stanza perfect, relaxing. This isn't self-concious myth-recounting, it's just something nice and soft to share with others, and I love the way you've pulled it into the second short-story of the calm morning. I liked the second stanza in particular, but not a huge amount more than any of the others. I was a little perturbed by the myth itself, because although his sleep-issue would be solved, wouldn't his eyes be all gummed up with blood? Presumably he could take advantage of the poultice-like nature of the tea leaves themselves, or something. Regardless: lovely! Maybe there shpuld be a hyphen between 'heart' and 'beats'? 'Cos it appears that 'heart' is the single subject, as opposed to the heart-beats, and so 'their slow dots' threw me a little. Oh, and I'm not entirely sure about the incense combusting bit... it seems to go off in too many directions, as the incense imagery has just been introduced, you move it a bit to the left again with 'combustion' which I didn't sit too comfortably with. I don't know really, just a thought.

Bye!

James
