Self Publishing - Copyright & Libel

There is a general article about copyright on this site which you should read but if you have any doubts at all, the golden rule is always to ask. You could run into serious difficulties if you use unauthorised material. For the skiing book I wrote to a couple of dozen of newspapers and journals asking for permission to quote from articles. All of them agreed and charged me nothing. There were one or two requirements and restrictions but these were entirely reasonable.
Libel
Again, there’s a general article about libel in this site which might set your mind at rest but if your book concerns real people, or fictionalised versions of real people, you might have to play safe and hire a lawyer.
