You are a specialist in your subject, with experience and knowledge other people already value. It might be technical expertise or a hobby or interest. It could be marketing or model railways, organ transplant or organ restoration; what's important is that you can write with authority.
Writing a book will raise your profile and widen your audience. It will cost you nothing and might even make you money. But where do you start? This one day workshop will help you identify your book opportunity. You will research it, discuss it and write a proposal that is ready to send to a publisher. All you need to bring is your idea, your laptop or iPad and an open mind.
Robert Ashton is a best selling business author. He has been published by Pearson, Hodder, Hamlyn and is currently writing a book for the Directory for Social Change. His 15 books have between them been translated into 18 languages and sell in more than 80 countries around the world. He is also a popular and challenging conference speaker, charity founder and campaigner. Robert blogs for The Guardian, Civil Society and Huffington Post.
Robert's only writing qualifications are an O Level in English and a Diploma in Creative Writing from the UEA. He believes that anyone can write a book if they really try. This workshop will help you take the first steps towards becoming a published author.
By the end of the day you will have:
• Worked out what your book will cover
• Researched the market
• Identified your opportunity
• Discussed publishers and considered self-publishing
• Written a book proposal and worked out where to submit it!
