Hello WW, another newbie  Deadly at 11:34 on 29 June 2010

Good morning.

This is quite exciting for me, if a little daunting. Although I am a member of other forums it is the first time I have joined one where I don't know anyone or even a great deal about the main interest, writing!

I have made scribbles for years but I have managed to turn one idea into a novel for the first time since Christmas...this one idea has persisted much longer than all the others and I am quite excited about it.

So hello from Dorset...

Indeed, hello and welcome!

Good luck with the novel and I hope to read some of your uploads in due course. Worth looking around the groups to see if any of them suit as getting and giving good feedback is a very good way to develop your skills.

Cheers,

Gaius

Gosh! What a lovely welcome - thank you! You have made it worth while oining already! I have perused the Groups and have felt brave enough to ask to join the Beginners group which seems a very good place to start...oops, cue Julie Andrews!!

Hi Moira, welcome from another newbie!

I've only ever written "novels" (50k words) during Nanowrimo, and I've decided short stories are more me. So I'm impressed at you doing it on your own.

Hi, Moira, and welcome to WriteWords

As a full member you can join one or more groups and move around the groups, as you may find that some are more active than others. If you need any help in navigating the site feel free to ask.

Hi Moira,

I'm from the South West too and I see we are both the same age, and both love animals and horses

Welcome, hope you enjoy your time here.

animals and horses

Why the distinction? Even as an equestrian, I would say "animals including horses" or perhaps "animals, especially horses". But, yes, horses are cool.

One of the best and simplest pleasures of writing hist fic - you really can't not write them.

Animals and horses...

Perhaps it is because I think of my horses as my companion or partners and not animals at all! Never really thought of it...sad and corny but my dog is my best friend too!

Thank you all for your welcomes, I'm feeling quite at home!

Re: Hello WW, another newbie  Deadly at 21:35 on 29 June 2010

I'm glad you said that EmmaD about writing horses as I have one as one of my main characters!!

Re: Hello WW, another newbie  GaiusCoffey at 11:09 on 30 June 2010

I have one as one of my main characters

The trouble with that is the difficulty with convincingly capturing a horse's motivation. Why, for example, is the same road sign perfectly innocuous for 286 days of the year, slightly concerning for 46 days of the year and more terrifying than a ravenous, snarling equinivorous beasty on the remainder?

Usually because it has a bicycle propped up beside it, in my experience...
