I went last night to this monthly event for short-story writers who'd like to hear their work performed by actors. It's in a room above The Wheatsheaf, in Rathbone Place, just off Oxford Street, costs £3, and although it starts at 7pm it's a good idea to get there earlier to get a seat as the room isn't all that big. A member of my local writer's group had written one of the stories, 'When Scrabble Goes Bad' so that's how I knew about it. I like the way the five stories went in ascending order from good to excellent. The last one, called 'Lavender Bunny and the Big Brother House' was very funny and all are enhanced by actors who can do dialogue, i.e. funny voices. There's a different topic each month and the next one is 'Crime and Punishment' with a deadline of Aug 22nd. A bonus for early-bedders like myself is the finishing time,9pm. Oh, and there's a little quiz at the end with a chance to win a paper-back by answering a literary question.
