Hi
We appear to be spread quite thinly in terms of members in the Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror (now offically dead) groups. Seeing as traditionally these genres travel together, I'm hereby floating the idea that we combine all three genres in one Speculative Fiction group. If there is enough interest, I imagine the forums and crits would be that much more livelier.
We do have enough writers here who write in these genres, including Terry, Sarah and Colin (I don't see why we can't incorporate YA fantasy too), and of course, I'm happy to stay on as host.
Before I go ahead and actually propose such a group, I'd like to see if there's any interest.
Thanks.

I'm definitely interested - I think that's a great idea

Is 'Speculative' the best name for the group, JB?
I'm thinking of new members joining who don't even know that Young Adult is teen fiction (I didn't when I joined). Would they automatically know that 'Speculative' stood for 'fantasy, SF, etc', rather than, say, Magical Realism, or some of the more outlandish literary and experimental fiction offerings out there?
You probably think that's daft question, but I didn't know what you meant until I read this thread, and if the group doesn't attract a constant supply of new members it risks going the way of the ones it seeks to replace.

Ok, how about Weird Fiction?

Strange Fiction?

I do see what you mean, Naomi. 'Fantasy, Horror and Science Fiction'? - merging the 3 group names?

Weird Fiction is the modern name, though, isn't it? The name that incorporates all the speculative genres. I get what you mean though Naomi, it might seem exclusive. Sci-Fi, Horror and Fantasy might work better? (Though I do like Weird Fiction as a title...)

I think you'd have the same problem, JB.

That would be my choice, Sarah. I'm sorry if it's too boring, but at the end of the day clarity is usually best.

Fair enough, I'll go with your foresight...if there is actually any interest!

How's about a group for weird writer's?

I'm there!

How about The Twilight Zone - most new members seeing that would make the connection immediately. Does anyone remember the magazine by the same title. Some incredible fiction and brilliant covers, then it went pop.

That sounds good

Only ever saw the late night TV series with the "doo-do-da-da" theme tune.

The magazine included sci-fi, bizarre contemporary, horror and fantasy themes. Most stories straddled more than one genre.

I think that's a great idea Colin but not sure WW would be allowed to call it that because of copyright.
