Maybe its worth a try then! I dunno, I reckon a lot of girls would think I was a nutter or very prententious (who said "yeah, so?"???). I s'pose I could write "I am not a nutter" on the first one, just to break the ice, like.

Dunno about the irony of a porno tache though Cath, unless it was worn (dunno if that's the right term for a tache??) by a eunach. I reckon they were for real!!! Maybe you should have found out...

They might even think I am pretentious...

I'm sure you know a little originality in real life can go a long way too, (as well as fiction). Try the post-its, they might just work? (Cath seems not closed to the idea!)

Not sure about the first "I am not a nutter" message though, maybe take out the "not" and they might think you're not.But the Sun & Doves doesn't sound a good place to start, whether the Freddie Bulsaras are being ironic or not.

I only go the Star anyway when I'm erm...looking for inspiration and ideas...and stuff.

You do all that for research purposes?

    Nope,

For my own personal enjoyment did it through the ages of 17-22. Nancy boy was the term. Full length leopard skin coats, tight shirts, small t-shirts, pin stripe trousers, snake skin shoes, eye liner, nail varnish all that kind of stuff. Dressed like a rock star and ****** like one too! Those were the days!

Listen to me I'm only 25!

Where did you hang out, Geoff? Weren't the rest of us mid-20s people (OK, I'm verging on late-20s now, but let's not dwell on that) at raves?? I saw fluffy bras, stilts, batty riders, even chicken outfits, but never a full-length leopard skin in sight.

    Hey Skippoo,

All sorts of places, private parties, indie/alternative clubs, "alternative clubs" that kind of thing. Believe it or not I bought the full length leopard skin coat in the Oxford circus TopMan (yes TopMan) in the mid 90's. I still have it hung in my wardrobe right next to my electric/silver fuffly coat.

I still like to stand out but I've toned it down a little now. I gave up the eyeliner and nail varnish too, dunno why just kind of fell out of it. I guess I'm what you'd call a metrosexual these days and you wouldn't believe hoe often I get chatted up by men!

Raves really weren't my thing, I don't drink, smoke or do drugs and can't abide to be around huge groups of people doing just that. Still I don't regret a thing

Skipoo's mention about finding silence can take two phases, I find.

The first phase of isolation is total devotion and absorbtion in the task. This is very encouraging and works wonders for your word-count. A month?

After a while, total isolation (months) begins to create a feeling of unreality. We are social beings and being cut off for a long time elicits wierdnesses. The 'prisoner clamouring in his cell' begins to emerge - for me, anyway - this is not so pleasant and can be deleterious to the text.

    A question of balance.

So you've tried it, Hamburger? Tell us more! When/how/where?

Not just deleterious, but also delirious.
