Highly enjoyable Saturday Reveiw feature yesterday with advice from leading authors, although most of it stating the bleeding obvious, ie Neil Gaiman, 'Write'

Thanks Sheila for posting link- I was just about to!- found some of it infuriating though, and some just as good as you'd expect eg Anne Enright, and I rather liked Phillip Pullman's response, although not very charitable. But definitely worth picking out the jewels and sticking them above your desk I think.
